Surah 31

Surah 31:12

"Certainly We gave Luqmān wisdom: ‘Be thankful to God. Whoever is thankful is thankful only for himself, and whoever is ungrateful – surely God is wealthy, praiseworthy.’"

31.12 – Certainly We gave Luqmān wisdom: “ Be thankful to God... ”
The story of Luqmān features the advice of a father to his son (vv. 12–19). His warning against ascribing partners to Allah seems to invite the insertion of verses 14–15, which encourage thankfulness and obedience to parents except when parents make their children ascribe partners to Allah. The name Luqmān appears only here in the Quran and is not known from the Bible or from other writings prior to the Quran.
