Surah 35

Surah 35:18

"No one bearing a burden bears the burden of another. If one heavy-burdened calls for his load (to be carried), nothing of it will be carried, even though he be a family member. You warn only those who fear their Lord in the unseen, and (who) observe the prayer. Whoever purifies himself, only purifies (himself) for (the sake of) his own self. To God is the (final) destination."

35.18 – No one bearing a burden bears the burden of another
This verse says that each person will be responsible for his or her own “burden” ( wizr ). This statement appears elsewhere in the Quran, but here it seems especially poignant because of the way the sūra ends (v. 45).
Is this a deliberate rejection of the biblical concept of Christ taking upon Himself the sins and mortality of the world? The context in Sūra 35 does not seem to have in mind the “People of the Book.” However, in modern times some Muslims have used this and similar verses to deny the possibility of Jesus bearing the brokenness of humanity to heal it. See an analysis of these verses at 53.38.
