37.133 – Surely Lot was indeed one of the envoys
This very brief story of Lot (vv. 133–38), the seventh of eight versions in the Quran, does not mention the sin for which Lot’s people were destroyed, and here it is “an old woman” who remains behind when Lot and his family flee (v. 135). However, the apparent reference to passing by the ruins of Lot’s city morning and evening (vv. 137–38) has intrigued scholars with its suggestion of a recitation closer to the Dead Sea.
