37.151–52 – Is it not a fact that out of their own lie they indeed say, “ God has begotten ” ?
The Arabic verb, walada , that people use with Allah is the same as that used in 112.3 (“He has not begotten and was not begotten”). The surrounding context does not seem to suggest that it is Christians who are saying this. Some scholars suggest that the subject may be pagan Arabs. See “Son of God in the Quran”.
