Surah 38:1
"Ṣād. By the Qur’ān, containing the Reminder!"
This sūra features several stories about biblical characters, chief among them a story about David in which two disputants ask him for a decision concerning “ninety-nine ewes.” The story does not follow the usual prophet story template. Instead, David asks God for forgiveness and repents. Solomon seems to follow suit. The stories are set amid passages about resistance to the Quran’s “warner” (vv. 4, 65, 70) and graphic descriptions of heaven and hell. The sūra closes with the final version of the refusal of Iblīs to bow down before the newly created “human being.”
