Surah 4

Surah 4:14

"But whoever disobeys God and His messenger, and transgresses His limits – He will cause him to enter the Fire, there to remain. For him (there is) a humiliating punishment."

4.14 – But whoever disobeys God and His messenger, and transgresses His limits
This was one of the verses that the brilliant jurist al-Shāfi‘ī (d. 820) cited to support the authority of the sunna (the life example and sayings attributed to Muhammad). Al-Shāfi‘ī’s influential arguments guaranteed the importance of Muhammad as a source of Islamic Law.
