"And (if) two of you commit it, harm both of them. But if they turn (in repentance) and set (things) right, let them be. Surely God turns (in forgiveness), compassionate."
Punishment for Sexual Immorality
Supporting Verses
Surah 4:15 → "(As for) those of your women who commit immorality, call witnesses against them, four of you. If they bear witness (to the truth of the allegation), confine them in their houses until death takes them, or God makes a way for (dealing with) them."
Opposing Verses
Surah 24:2 → "The adulterous woman and the adulterous man – flog each one of them a hundred lashes, and let no pity for the two of them affect you concerning the religion of God, if you believe in God and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment."
Does the Quran prescribe flogging, confinement, or forgiveness upon repentance for sexual immorality? Some verses state that those guilty of illegal sexual intercourse should be flogged with a hundred lashes. Other verses mandate that women guilty of lewdness should be confined to their houses until death. Additionally, another verse states that if two people commit immorality and then repent, they should be left alone.
