Surah 4:170

"People! The messenger has brought you the truth from your Lord, so believe! (It will be) better for you. But if you disbelieve – surely to God (belongs) whatever is in the heavens and the earth. God is knowing, wise."

The Quran claims authority for the messenger in this “self-referential” statement. “People!” calls out to Muslim and non-Muslim alike immediately prior to the serious theological denials of verse 171.
