Surah 4:51
"Do you not see those who have been given a portion of the Book? They believe in al-Jibt and al-Ṭāghūt, and they say to those who disbelieve, ‘These are better guided (as to the) way than those who believe.’"
4.51 â They believe in al-Jibt and al-ṬÄghÅ«t
Who are these figures that this verse says âthose who have been given a portion of the Bookâ believe in? The term al-Jibt appears only here in the Quran, al-ṬÄghÅ«t occurs again in verses 60 and 76 in this sÅ«ra, and also in 2.256; 5.60; 16.36; and 39.17. Some scholars have suggested that al-Jibt and al-ṬÄghÅ«t were the names of gods or idols and that the use of al-ṬÄghÅ«t in 4.60, 76 gives the impression that it was another name for Satan.
