Surah 4:79

"Whatever good smites you is from God, and whatever evil smites you is from yourself. We have sent you as a messenger to the people. God is sufficient as a witness."
Origin of Good and Evil

Supporting Verses

Surah 38:41 → "And remember Our servant Job: When he called out to his Lord, ‘Surely I – Satan has touched me with weariness and punishment.’"
Surah 4:120 → "He makes promises to them and fills them with longings. Yet Satan does not promise them (anything) but deception."

Opposing Verses

Surah 4:78 → "Wherever you are, death will overtake you, even though you are in well-built towers. And if some good smites them, they say, ‘This is from God,’ but if some evil smites them, they say, ‘This is from you.’ Say: ‘Everything is from God.’ What is (the matter) with these people? They hardly understand any report."
There are varying statements within the Quran regarding the source of good, evil, and calamity. Some verses indicate that all things, including good and evil, originate from God. Other verses state that while good comes from God, evil originates from oneself. Additionally, certain passages attribute the affliction of evil and deception to Satan.
