Surah 4:84

"Fight in the way of God! You are only responsible for yourself, but urge on the believers. It may be that God will restrain the violence of those who disbelieve. God is harsher in violence, and harsher in punishing."

4.84 – Fight in the way of God!
This verse commands the messenger in particular to fight (sing.), using the Arabic verb qātala. The reason seems to be to restrain the violence of those who “disbelieve.”
When the Quran commands the messenger to fight “in the way (sabīl) of Allah,” it makes a theological claim by associating Allah with human fighting. See the analysis of these expressions at 73.20.
