Surah 43

Surah 43:63

"When Jesus brought the clear signs, he said, ‘I have brought you the wisdom, and (I have done so) to make clear to you some of your differences. Guard (yourselves) against God and obey me."

43.63 – When Jesus brought the clear signs
For the name ‘Īsā, see the explanation at 2.97 (p. 49). The statement that ‘Īsā brought “clear signs” (bayyināt) also appears at 2.87; 5.110; and 61.6. The occurrence of bayyināt at 5.110 and 61.6 suggests that this expression may refer to the miracles of ‘Īsā. See a discussion about the miracles of ‘Īsā in the Quran at 5.110.
The Gospel accounts, especially the Gospel of John, call the miracles of Jesus “signs” (Gk. sēmeia). Earlier in this sūra the Quran asks the messenger, “Can you make the deaf to hear?” (43.40), and then there is a series of verses in which the audience asks the messenger for a miracle or sign (āya). The Gospel according to John says that the miraculous signs of Jesus revealed his divine glory (John 2:11; 4:54; 6:2, 14; 9:16).
