Surah 44:54
"So (it is), and We shall marry them to (maidens) with dark, wide eyes."
44.54 – We shall marry them to (maidens) with dark, wide eyes
What do such descriptions mean to portray about the characteristics of the heavenly “Gardens”? Droge translates the Arabic ḥūr ‘īn as “(maidens) with dark, wide eyes.” This expression also appears at 52.20 and 56.22, and ḥūr alone appears at 55.72. Other verses mention “(maidens) restraining (their) glances” (38.52; 55.56), “full-breasted (maidens)” (78.33), and “virgins” (56.36).
