Surah 47

Surah 47:15

"A parable of the Garden which is promised to the ones who guard (themselves): In it (there are) rivers of water without pollution, and rivers of milk – its taste does not change – and rivers of wine – delicious to the drinkers – and rivers of purified honey. In it (there is) every (kind of) fruit for them, and forgiveness from their Lord. (Are they) like those who remain in the Fire? They are given boiling water to drink, and it cuts their insides (to pieces)."

Supporting Verses

Surah 83:22 → "Surely the pious will indeed be in (a place of) bliss,"
Surah 83:25 → "They are given a pure, sealed wine to drink,"

Opposing Verses

Surah 2:219 → "They ask you about wine and games of chance. Say: ‘In both of them (there is) great sin, but (also some) benefits for the people, yet their sin is greater than their benefit.’ They ask you about what they should contribute. Say: ‘The excess.’ In this way God makes clear to you the signs, so that you may reflect"
Surah 5:90 → "You who believe! Wine, games of chance, stones, and divination arrows are an abomination, part of the work of Satan. So avoid it in order that you may prosper."
Does the Quran describe wine as an abomination or a heavenly reward? Some verses state that wine is a sin, an abomination, and the work of Satan, while other verses describe rivers of pure, delicious wine as a promised reward for the righteous in Paradise.
