Who Takes Souls at Death
Supporting Verses
Surah 39:42 → "God takes the self at the time of its death, and that which has not died in its sleep, and He retains the one for whom He has decreed death, but sends back the other until an appointed time. Surely in that are signs indeed for a people who reflect."
Opposing Verses
Surah 32:11 → "Say: ‘The angel of death, who is put in charge of you, will take you, (and) then you will be returned to your Lord.’"
The Quran presents varying accounts regarding who takes souls at death. Depending on the verse, the act of taking souls is attributed directly to God, to a single angel of death, or to multiple angels.
