Surah 49:7
"Know that the messenger of God is among you. If he obeyed you in much of the affair, you would indeed be in distress. But God has made belief dear to you, and made it appear enticing in your hearts, and made disbelief and wickedness and disobedience hateful to you. Those – they are the right-minded."
49.7 – Know that the messenger of God is among you
This important self-conscious or “self-referential” claim draws attention to the messenger in a way quite different from most sūras in the Quran. The expression “the messenger of Allah” is also quite rare, appearing twice in this sūra (also in v. 3) and at 7.158; 9.61; and 48.29.
Is this a message “sent down,” or is it simply a claim that the messenger makes for himself in third person (or first person, 7.158)? This sūra does not present itself as a message from Allah until verse 14 (“say”). Allah remains in third person until verse 17.
