Surah 5

Surah 5:13

"For their breaking their covenant, We cursed them and made their hearts hard. They alter words from their positions, and have forgotten part of what they were reminded of. You will continue to see treachery from them, except for a few of them. Yet pardon them and excuse (them). Surely God loves the doers of good."

5.13 – They alter words from their positions, and have forgotten part of what they were reminded of
This is the third of four verses in the Quran that contain the Arabic verb ḥarrafa –often translated as “distort” or “alter” (as here) but understood by the earliest Muslim commentators to mean “tampering with” or “mishandling” (also 2.75; 4.46; 5.41).

5.13 – Surely God loves the doers of good
The Quran contains twenty-two statements about the kinds of people whom Allah loves. “Doers of good” are among the most common objects of Allah’s love (also v. 93; 2.195; 3.134, 148).
