Surah 5

Surah 5:2

"You who believe! Do not profane the symbols of God, nor the sacred month, nor the offering, nor the ornaments, nor (those) going to the Sacred House seeking favor from their Lord and approval. But when you are free (from your state of sanctity), hunt (wild game). Do not let hatred of the people who kept you from (going to) the Sacred Mosque provoke you to commit aggression. Help one another to piety and the guarding (of yourselves), and do not help each other to sin and enmity. Guard (yourselves) against God. Surely God is harsh in retribution."
Number of Sacred Months

Opposing Verses

Surah 9:36 → "Surely the number of months with God is twelve, (written) in the Book of God on the day when He created the heavens and the earth. Of them, four are sacred. That is the right religion. Do not do yourselves evil during them, but fight (against) the idolaters all together, as they fight you all together, and know that God is with the ones who guard (themselves)."
Does the Quran refer to the sacred months in singular or plural form? Some verses state that there are four sacred months, while others refer to the sacred month in the singular.
