Surah 5

Surah 5:75

"The Messiah, son of Mary, was only a messenger. Messengers have passed away before him. His mother was a truthful woman. They both ate food. See how We make clear the signs to them, then see how deluded they are."
The Death of Jesus

Supporting Verses

Surah 23:15 → "Then, after that, you will indeed die,"
Surah 39:30 → "Surely you are mortal, and surely they are mortal,"
Surah 3:144 → "Muḥammad is only a messenger. Messengers have already passed away before him. If he dies or is killed, will you turn back on your heels? Whoever turns back on his heels will not harm God at all. God will repay the thankful."

Opposing Verses

Surah 4:157 → "and for their saying, ‘Surely we killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of God’ – yet they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but it (only) seemed like (that) to them. Surely those who differ about him are indeed in doubt about him. They have no knowledge about him, only the following of conjecture. Certainly they did not kill him."
Surah 4:158 → "No! God raised him to Himself. God is mighty, wise."
There is a discussion regarding whether the Quran states that Jesus died. Certain verses indicate that all messengers prior to Muhammad have passed away and that everyone is mortal, implying the death of Jesus. In contrast, other verses state that Jesus was neither killed nor crucified, but rather raised up to God.
