Surah 5

Surah 5:78

"Those of the Sons of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of David and Jesus, son of Mary – that was because they disobeyed and were transgressing."

5.78 – Those of the Sons of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of David and Jesus
Some verses in the Quran make the reader wonder how the reciter/writer could have gotten Jesus so different from the Gospel accounts. It is not just that Jesus made no such curse in the New Testament, but that Jesus’ life went in the opposite direction. One of Jesus’ best-known sayings from the Gospel accounts is “bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you” (Luke 6:28). The apostle Paul, evidently writing from his knowledge of Jesus’ teachings, wrote, “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse” (Romans 12:14). Paul also wrote, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree’” (Galatians 3:13). And at the end of the New Testament, the parting vision is of a city in which “no longer will there be any curse” (Revelation 22:3).
When Jesus looked out over Jerusalem, not long before his crucifixion, he spoke in the most tender way, using a striking simile: “How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings” (Matthew 23:37–39; Luke 13:34–35).
