Surah 5:82
5.82 – Certainly you will find that the most violent of people in enmity to the believers are the Jews and the idolaters
The Quran characterizes the Jews as the greatest enemies of the “believers,” while the Christians are “the closest of them in affection.” The following verses say that some Christians agree with the recitations of the messenger (v. 83) and for that are rewarded (v. 85).
Quranic passages like this that portray the Jews in the most negative ways have the potential to fuel antipathy and even violence against Jews. The Muslim story of Islamic origins seems to support both negative thoughts and deadly actions with its episodes of the treatment of three Jewish tribes in Medina (Sīra, 363–64, 437–45, 461–69) and its extensive portrayal of the Jewish rabbis (Sīra, 247–72).
