– Believe in God and His messenger, and contribute
This verse begins a short passage (vv. 7–11) that exhorts the believers to contribute – or “spend” – “in the way of Allah.” The contributing envisioned accompanies fighting (qātala, v. 10) and seems to suggest a battle scene.
This verse associates the messenger with Allah as deserving of belief. The messenger exhorts the listeners to believe in Allah (v. 8), and a later verse commands the “believers” to believe in the messenger (v. 28).
