Surah 59:11
"Do you not see those who have played the hypocrite? They say to their brothers who disbelieve among the People of the Book, ‘If indeed you are expelled, we shall indeed go forth with you, and we shall never obey anyone concerning you. And if you are fought against, we shall indeed help you.’ God bears witness: ‘Surely they are liars indeed!’"

From this passage (vv. 11–17), it seems that certain “hypocrites” have promised help to the affected group from the People of the Book. But when the attack on the group starts, the hypocrites are struck with fear (v. 13) and prove false.
