Surah 6

Surah 6:125

"Whomever God intends to guide, He expands his heart to Islam, and whomever He intends to lead astray, He makes his heart narrow (and) constricted, as if he were climbing up into the sky. In this way God places the abomination on those who do not believe."
Claimed Miracle: Physiology
APOLOGIST CLAIM

"The Quran states that God makes the chest 'tight and constricted as though he were climbing into the sky', miraculously predicting altitude sickness and oxygen deprivation."

Refutation & Exegesis

The feeling of breathlessness when ascending steep mountains or hills was a universal physiological experience for anyone living in the rugged, mountainous terrain of the Arabian Peninsula (like Mecca and Ta'if). One does not need to fly into the stratosphere to experience exertion and chest tightness from physical climbing. The Quran utilizes this common, relatable physical struggle as a potent metaphor for the spiritual difficulty a disbeliever faces when confronted with guidance.
Pseudo-correlation / Dehistoricization

Apologists turn the universal, mundane experience of losing oxygen while climbing high mountains (highly accessible to anyone traveling the mountainous terrain of the Hijaz) into an allegedly unknowable prediction about high-altitude atmospheric pressure.
