6.74 – when Abraham said to his father Āzar: “Do you take idols as gods?”
Abraham opposes the idol worship practiced by his father and his people. He learns from experience not to worship the creation but rather the Creator (vv. 75–79). Stories of Abraham in confrontation with idolaters appear in different versions throughout the Quran.
The Quran here names Abraham’s father as Āzar, whereas in the Bible his father is Terāḥ (Genesis 11:24–32).
