6.84 – And We granted him Isaac and Jacob – each one We guided
Immediately after the story of Abraham, the Quran lists many other names, all of them biblical characters, and gives them a high status (vv. 86–87).
Isaac is mentioned first as the son Allah granted to Abraham, while Ishmael appears only near the end of the list. This may come as a surprise to readers who are familiar with the importance of Ishmael in Islam. The same pattern is followed in a number of other quranic passages.
