Surah 7

Surah 7:103

"Then, after them, We raised up Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his assembly, but they did evil to them. See how the end was for the fomenters of corruption!"

This long story about Moses and the Children of Israel (vv. 103–71) offers more details than any of the many other Moses narratives in the Quran. This version starts out with Allah sending Moses to Pharaoh and includes many of the narrative elements familiar from the account of Moses in the Torah. However, three elements not known from the Old Testament are (also in Sūra 2.49–73) Allah commanding the Children of Israel to enter a town prostrate (vv. 161–62); Allah raising a mount above the people (v. 171); and the Children of Israel transgressing the Sabbath (v. 163).
