أَلَمۡ تَرَوۡاْ كَيۡفَ خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ سَبۡعَ سَمَٰوَٰتٖ طِبَاقٗا

Do you not see how God created seven heavens in stories,

وَقَالُواْ لَا تَذَرُنَّ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدّٗا وَلَا سُوَاعٗا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسۡرٗا

and said, “Do not forsake your gods, and do not forsake Wadd, nor Suwā’, nor Yaghūth, and Ya‘ūq, and Nasr.”

This verse anachronistically places the worship of specific 7th-century pre-Islamic Arabian deities—Wadd, Suwā', Yaghūth, Ya'ūq, and Nasr—into the ancient, pre-flood generation of Noah. وَقَدۡ أَضَلُّواْ كَثِيرٗاۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَٰلٗا

And they have led many astray. Increase the evildoers only in going astray!’
