These words, addressed to the messenger, begin an extended passage that brings to mind a military battle ( qitāl , v. 16). “A group of the believers” are evidently unwilling to participate (vv. 5–6).
Muslim tradition has connected the remainder of the sūra with “the battle of Badr.”
