Surah 80

Surah 80:1

"He frowned and turned away,"

By this point in the Quran, the reader is familiar with its main themes and the kinds of literature it includes. These themes and text types repeat in the remaining sūras and need no further explanation.

80.1–2 – He frowned and turned away, because the blind man came to him
The sūra opens with a story of interaction with a blind man. However, because this passage (vv. 1–10) gives no names but only pronouns (“he,” “you”), it is difficult to make out what the story might be about.
Muslim commentators on this passage told a story about Muhammad and his behavior with a blind man who asked to be taught.
