80.17 – May the human perish! How ungrateful he is!
The picture of humanity in this passage (vv. 17–23) is rather negative. Though Allah creates and makes the way easy for people, they do not fulfill Allah’s commandments but instead are ungrateful. On the Quran’s concept of human nature, see the analysis at 79.40.
