Surah 9

Surah 9:12

"But if they break their oaths, after their treaty, and vilify your religion, fight the leaders of disbelief – surely they have no (binding) oaths – so that they stop (fighting)."

This verse commands the reader or listener to fight, using the Arabic verb qātala . The enemies to be fought are the “leaders of disbelief,” and the purpose of the fighting is to stop the enemy from defaming the religion of the Muslims.
