Surah 9:33
"He (it is) who has sent His messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may cause it to prevail over religion – all of it – even though the idolaters dislike (it)."
Here is a further clue to the reason for the command to fight the People of the Book (v. 29). Allah wants the “religion of truth” to prevail over all other religion. Once more, the translation “idolaters” for mushrikūn does not seem to pay attention to the group of people discussed in the context (vv. 29–34).
