Show Full Scripture Context (9:50-54) — 5 Verses
If some good smites you, it distresses them, but if some smiting smites you, they say, ‘We took hold of our affair before (this),’ and they turn away, gloating.
Say: ‘Nothing smites us except what God has prescribed for us. He is our Protector, and in God let the believers put (their) trust.’
Say: ‘Do you wait for anything in our case except for one of the two good (rewards)? But we are waiting in your case for God to smite you with punishment from Him or at our hands. (Just) wait! Surely we shall be waiting with you.’
Say: ‘Contribute willingly or unwillingly, it will not be accepted from you. Surely you are a wicked people.’
Nothing prevents their contributions being accepted from them, except that they have not believed in God and in His messenger, and they do not come to the prayer, except in a lazy fashion, and they do not contribute, except unwillingly.
they say, we took precautions when we did not join him,
4and they turn away rejoicing.)'
Allah directed His Prophet to reply to the perfect enmity they have towards him,
4Say), to them,
4Nothing shall ever happen to us except what Allah has ordained far us.)
for we are under His control and decree,
4He is our Mawld.), Master and protector,
4And in Allah let the believers put their trust) [9:51],
and we trust in Him. Verily, He is sufficient for us and what an excellent guardian.
Allah mentions the reason behind not accepting their charity from them,
4 except that they disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger .}
