Surah 91

Surah 91:8

"and instilled it with its (tendency to) depravity and its (sense of) guarding (itself)!"

91.8 – and instilled it with its (tendency to) depravity and its (sense of) guarding
This wording is a good example of how translator A. J. Droge provides a straightforward translation while most Muslim translators interpret the words to bring them in line with Islamic teaching. For example, Yusuf Ali interpreted the words to mean, “and enlightenment as to its wrong and its right.” In fact, the Arabic of the expression in view is alhamahā (“inspired it”) fujūrahā (“its immorality”).
